KATHUA: Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma on Friday unveiled the trophy and team kits for the inaugural Kathua Football League, which is set to begin on Saturday.
The tournament, being organised by the district administration under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, aims to promote sports culture, encourage youth participation and provide a competitive platform for local football talent while supporting anti-drug awareness efforts.
Speaking at a media briefing after the unveiling ceremony, Sharma highlighted the role of sports in promoting discipline, teamwork and healthy lifestyles among young people. He urged youth to participate actively in sporting activities and make use of opportunities being created at the district level.
Officials said the league will feature 12 teams from different parts of Kathua district, offering players an opportunity to showcase their talent and gain competitive exposure.
The administration said the tournament is part of broader efforts to strengthen the district’s sporting ecosystem, promote fitness and engage youth in constructive activities.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahima Madan, Chief Planning Officer Ranjeet Thakur, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Sunil Kumar, District Information Officer Gurpreet Singh and captains of participating teams were present at the event.
