Governor emphasized the crucial importance of the Commission maintaining unimpeachable standards in the selection of candidates as even a slight compromise would lead to the functioning of public offices, departments and agencies being marred by the inadequate performance of functionaries who were not selected on merit.

Jeet Lal Gupta, Chairman, State Commission for Backward Classes, accompanied by Gh. Haider Badana, Member of the Commission, also met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan today.

Gupta briefed Governor about the functioning of the Commission and the various steps being taken to promote and protect social, educational, economic and cultural interests of the Backward classes in the State. He also apprised Governor about the various important matters concerning the Backward classes which are still pending decisions at various levels.

Observing that J&K was a multi-lingual and multi-cultural state, Governor stressed the high importance of all required measures being taken for the rapid development of the Backward classes.

Dr. Aziz Hajini, Secretary, JK Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) also called on Governor Vohra and briefed him about the ongoing programmes and the upcoming events which are being organized by the Academy and the efforts underway to promote traditional arts and artists.
