Jammu: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has launched an initiative to install signboards in the Dogri language at major intersections, chowks and other prominent locations across Jammu city in an effort to promote the region’s linguistic and cultural heritage.
Officials said the project has been taken up following a request from the Siyana Nagrik Muddad Seva Sanstha, which has also provided a number of Dogri signboards for installation at suitable locations.
The civic body said the initiative is intended to increase the visibility of Dogri in public spaces and encourage greater awareness of the language among residents, particularly younger generations.
JMC officials noted that the corporation has also incorporated Dogri-language information displays at the Waste to Wonder Park in Bhagwati Nagar, where details about monuments and installations are provided in the regional language.
The installation of Dogri signboards across the city is expected to further strengthen the language’s presence in everyday public life and promote awareness of the cultural heritage of the Jammu region.
Joint Commissioner (Revenue and Enforcement) Kulbhushan Khajuria said the project is being implemented at various locations across the city as part of efforts to preserve and promote Dogri and the broader Dogra cultural identity.
