Budgam: Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, on Thursday held a public outreach camp at Hardu Dalwan in Charar-e-Sharief constituency and launched development works worth over ₹2.5 crore aimed at improving road connectivity in the area.

During the outreach programme, residents and local representatives raised issues related to road connectivity, drinking water, electricity and other developmental needs. Rather assured the public that their genuine concerns would be taken up with the concerned departments and addressed in a phased and time-bound manner.

He said regular interaction with people was essential to ensure that development priorities reflect the actual needs of the public, adding that constructive feedback and public participation play a key role in achieving balanced development.

As part of his visit, the Speaker also inspected Government Higher Secondary School Hardu Dalwan and reviewed its infrastructure and academic requirements. Students presented a cultural programme on the occasion.

During an interaction with students, teachers and the school management, Rather was informed about the need for desks, benches and smart classroom facilities. He assured that funds would be provided and the identified requirements would be addressed at the earliest.

Emphasising the importance of quality education, the Speaker encouraged students to remain focused on their studies and contribute positively to society.

Earlier, Rather inaugurated road works worth more than ₹2.5 crore, including macadamisation and blacktopping of a 1.5-kilometre PMGSY road at Ahangar Mohalla and a one-kilometre road at Kakawring.

Speaking on the occasion, he said improved road infrastructure is vital for socio-economic development, particularly in rural and hilly areas, as it enhances access to education, healthcare, markets and other essential services.

He added that strengthening road connectivity remains a priority and efforts are underway to improve access to remote habitations while ensuring safer and more efficient movement of people.
