Sopore: Residents of Ningli Bala in Tarzoo area of Sopore have urged the administration and Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department to resume work on a long-pending bridge connecting the locality with Sopore town.
Locals said the bridge, being constructed under the NABARD scheme, was halted due to a rise in water levels. However, they claimed that despite water levels receding significantly, work on the project has not resumed, causing inconvenience to residents.
They said schoolchildren are facing difficulties commuting, patients are struggling to access healthcare facilities and elderly people are finding it hard to reach nearby mosques. A temporary wooden footbridge erected by locals has reportedly deteriorated and now poses a safety risk.
According to residents, several accidents have occurred on the makeshift structure, including a recent incident in which a student allegedly fell while crossing the bridge and suffered a leg fracture.
MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar said the work had been suspended due to high water levels and assured residents that construction would resume and the bridge would be completed.
The residents appealed to the authorities to restart the project without further delay to restore safe connectivity and prevent further accidents.
