Jammu: Heavy rainfall on Sunday morning led to waterlogging in several parts of Jammu city, prompting the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to deploy Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and machinery to clear affected areas.

According to officials, water accumulated in Rajinder Nagar, Muthi, Patta Bohri, Lakhdata Bazar and Bantalab following intense rainfall.

The JMC said waterlogging in Rajinder Nagar and Patta Bohri was aggravated by construction material stored at sites where drainage works are being carried out by the Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED). Following public complaints, civic teams cleared the accumulated water and restored normal conditions within about an hour.

Officials said ongoing nallah construction works under the flood management project are expected to be completed in the coming months, which would help address drainage issues in these areas.

Near Pawan Ice Cream, JMC teams, in coordination with officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), removed construction material blocking a side drain and carried out dewatering operations.

The corporation said it is monitoring vulnerable locations during the monsoon and has urged residents to report civic issues through its helpline for prompt action.
