Srinagar: The Meteorological Department (MeT) has forecast a prolonged spell of rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir from August 9 to 19, with a warning of heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
According to MeT, most places in the Union Territory are likely to receive light to moderate rain and thundershowers from August 9 to 11. A few districts in the Jammu division may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, while isolated places in Kashmir could experience brief but intense showers. Peak weather activity is expected on August 11.
From August 12 to 16, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy, with light rain and thundershowers at many places and occasional intense showers at a few locations.
A fresh spell of light to moderate rain and thundershowers is forecast at many places between August 17 and 19, with the possibility of intense heavy showers at some spots.
The MeT has specifically warned of heavy rain and intense showers in a few districts from August 9 to 11, with one or two districts in Jammu likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during the night of August 11.
Authorities have been advised to remain vigilant as torrential rain may trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas, besides causing waterlogging in low-lying regions.
