SRINAGAR: Education Minister Sakeena Itoo and Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani on Saturday reviewed the progress of academic and infrastructure development at the University of Kashmir’s Wayan campus in Kupwara, directing authorities to expedite pending works and remove bottlenecks affecting its expansion.
The review meeting was attended by Kashmir University Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan, Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Ram Niwas Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Shrikant Suse, the university registrar and other officials.
The meeting assessed the status of ongoing development works, academic infrastructure and institutional requirements of the campus. Discussions focused on strengthening the campus as a major centre of higher education in north Kashmir and expanding access to quality education for students from Kupwara and adjoining areas.
Sakeena stressed the need for coordinated efforts between university authorities and government departments to ensure timely completion of infrastructure projects. She said the campus should be equipped with adequate academic, administrative and student-support facilities to meet the growing educational needs of the region.
The minister directed stakeholder departments to remove hurdles affecting the campus’s development and asked the Vice Chancellor to conduct a field visit to review ongoing works. She also directed the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara to resolve the issue of land allotment in coordination with the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO).
Nasir Aslam Wani highlighted the importance of the Kupwara campus in improving access to higher and professional education in the district. He called for close coordination among stakeholders and stressed the need to introduce employment-oriented and professional courses aligned with local requirements and emerging opportunities.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan gave a detailed presentation on the progress made in strengthening academic activities and infrastructure at the campus.
