Srinagar: Police in Anantnag have booked two “repeat drug peddlers” under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act.
The detained individuals — Junaid Ahmad Mantoo of Waghama, and Mohammad Ashraf Dar, of Tulkhan, Bijbehara — are repeat offenders involved in multiple NDPS cases and continued to engage in illicit drug trafficking despite repeated legal action against them, a police spokesman said.
He said considering their persistent involvement in narcotics-related activities and the threat posed by their actions to public safety and the well-being of society, detention orders were issued under the PIT NDPS Act, and they were lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu.
A drug-peddler Sanjay Kumar alias “Sanju”, a resident of Phalata village in Udhampur was also detained under PIT-NDPS Act and lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah in Doda, police said.
