Srinagar: A meeting of the Committee on Assurances was held at the Assembly Secretariat, Srinagar, on Thursday under the chairmanship of MLA Ali Mohammad Sagar to review the status of assurances, commitments and promises made by the government on the floor of the House.
MLA Iftkar Ahmad, Waheed ur Rehman Para, Shabir Ahmad Kullay, along with senior officers from the Assembly Secretariat, attended the meeting.
During the deliberations, the Chairman highlighted the important role of the Committee on Assurances in ensuring effective implementation of commitments made by the government during legislative proceedings.
He said the Committee acts as a key mechanism for monitoring progress, reviewing pending matters and ensuring timely fulfilment of assurances given in the Assembly.
Stressing the need for greater accountability among government departments, Ali Mohammad Sagar directed all concerned departments to make coordinated efforts for implementation of pending assurances within a stipulated period of three months.
Members of the Committee supported the Chairman’s views and emphasised the need to further strengthen the monitoring framework to improve the effectiveness of the Committee’s functioning.
The members also put forward suggestions aimed at ensuring better coordination, efficient follow-up and timely disposal of pending assurances.
The Committee decided to hold regular meetings to review progress and facilitate faster implementation of assurances, thereby strengthening legislative oversight and accountability in governance.
The meeting concluded with members reaffirming their commitment to work collectively towards achieving the objectives of the Committee.
