Anantnag: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Science & Technology, ARI & Trainings, and Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma, on Thursday reviewed the arrangements and facilities being put in place at Chandanwari for the smooth conduct of the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026.
During his visit to Chandanwari, the Minister took stock of the ongoing preparations and reviewed facilities being developed for pilgrims. He stressed the need for close coordination among all concerned departments to ensure adequate arrangements for the safety, convenience and well-being of devotees.
Satish Sharma directed the concerned agencies to ensure timely completion of all necessary works and services so that the annual pilgrimage is conducted in a smooth, safe and well-organised manner.
Later, the Minister attended a sports event at Kashmiri Pandit Colony, Vessu, where he interacted with local youth, residents and sports enthusiasts.
Addressing the gathering, Satish Sharma said sports play an important role in building a healthy, disciplined and progressive society. He said the youth of Jammu and Kashmir possess immense talent and energy, and need proper platforms, facilities and encouragement to excel in sporting activities.
He emphasised that sports are not limited to recreation but serve as a medium for developing discipline, confidence, leadership qualities and social harmony among young people.
The Minister said grassroots-level sporting events help channelise the energy of youth towards positive activities while also identifying emerging talent.
“Events like this not only promote physical fitness and competitive spirit but also strengthen the bonds of unity, brotherhood and mutual respect within the community,” he said.
Satish Sharma reiterated that the government is committed to strengthening sports infrastructure and expanding youth-centric initiatives across Jammu and Kashmir. He said efforts are being made to create more opportunities for young people, identify talent at the grassroots level and provide access to modern facilities and guidance.
Interacting with participants, the Minister appreciated their enthusiasm and encouraged youth to actively participate in sports and other constructive activities.
