Srinagar: Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo on Wednesday reviewed the progress of several major healthcare infrastructure projects, including the OPD Complex of Super Speciality Hospital (SSH) Srinagar, the Multi Facility Centre (MFC) of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar and the additional 50-bedded hospital building at Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Pahalgam.
The review meeting, held at the Civil Secretariat, was attended by MLA Pahalgam Altaf Ahmad Wani, Principal GMC Srinagar, Director Health Services Kashmir, Director Finance, Director Planning, Health and Medical Education, and other senior officials.
Reviewing the status of the projects, the minister directed the executing agencies and concerned officers to expedite pending works and ensure completion within stipulated timelines. She stressed the need for accountability in the execution of public projects, stating that delays in healthcare infrastructure directly affect public welfare.
While reviewing the construction of the additional 50-bedded hospital building at Pahalgam, Itoo directed authorities to finalise the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and begin the remaining works without delay. She noted that Pahalgam, being a major tourist destination and the base camp for the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, requires a well-equipped healthcare facility to cater to residents, tourists and pilgrims.
The minister fixed March 2027 as the target for completion of the project and directed that the facility be made fully operational within the timeline.
Officials informed the meeting that the project has an estimated cost of Rs 19.90 crore, of which civil works worth Rs 12.40 crore have already been tendered. Once completed, the hospital is expected to provide a range of healthcare services to the local population and visitors.
Reviewing the Multi Facility Centre of GMC Srinagar, Itoo directed that all civil works be completed by the end of July 2026. She also asked officials to pursue necessary approvals from the Government of India for installation of additional facilities and infrastructure at the centre.
The minister also reviewed progress on the Super Speciality Hospital OPD complex and other healthcare infrastructure projects, reiterating that delays in the health sector are unacceptable. She directed the Health Department to maintain regular oversight of project implementation and ensure that all infrastructure is developed in accordance with approved healthcare standards and requirements.
She further emphasised proper planning, coordination and adherence to guidelines to ensure timely completion of projects and optimal utilisation of resources.
