ANANTNAG: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday organised a press conference in Anantnag to mark the completion of 12 years of the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting what it described as major achievements in development, governance and public welfare.

Addressing the media, BJP Jammu and Kashmir spokespersons Altaf Thakur and Danish Ahmad Bhat termed the last twelve years a “golden era” for the country and particularly for Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking on the occasion, Altaf Thakur said the Modi government’s tenure has been guided by the principles of “Vishwas (Trust), Vikas (Development) and Jan Kalyan (Public Welfare).” He claimed that the scale of development witnessed during the past 12 years surpassed that of the previous several decades.

Referring to developments in Jammu and Kashmir since 2019, Thakur said the region has witnessed significant changes, with improvements in security, infrastructure and public services. He said that peace and stability have enabled normal life and economic activity to flourish across the Valley.

Highlighting welfare initiatives undertaken by the Central Government, Thakur said major programmes aimed at poverty alleviation, sanitation, housing and social welfare have benefitted millions across the country. He cited the construction of toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission, housing initiatives for economically weaker sections and the distribution of free ration during the COVID-19 pandemic among the government’s key achievements.

He further said that major infrastructure projects in Jammu and Kashmir, including AIIMS institutions, expansion of the national highway network and improved railway connectivity through the Vande Bharat train service, have strengthened connectivity and accelerated development in the region.

Addressing the gathering, Danish Ahmad Bhat said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has earned widespread public support due to his governance model and development-oriented policies. He said that prior to 2014, the country faced several challenges, including corruption, nepotism and security concerns, and claimed that significant progress has been made under the present government.

Bhat stated that India’s economic standing has improved considerably over the past decade and expressed confidence that the country is on course for further economic growth in the coming years.

Among those present at the press conference were BJP District President Rakesh Kaul, District Secretary Abid Nengroo and other party functionaries.
