Kupwara: Managing Director of Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (JKMSCL), Tariq Hussain Ganai, on Wednesday visited Seemari, one of the remotest villages in the Teetwal block of Karnah sub-division, to review developmental activities being implemented under the Government of India’s Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) Phase-II.

Located along the Line of Control in the Karnah sector, Seemari has been identified for focused development under the programme, which aims to improve infrastructure, public services and livelihood opportunities in border areas.

During the visit, Ganai chaired a public outreach-cum-review meeting with local residents and officials. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Karnah, highlighted the objectives of the Vibrant Village Programme and its role in ensuring inclusive development and improving the quality of life in remote border villages.

The Block Development Officer, Teetwal, presented a detailed profile of the village and briefed the meeting on developmental works completed and those currently under execution under various government schemes.

During the interaction, residents raised several issues, including road connectivity between Seemari and Kadhama, augmentation of drinking water facilities in the Phagwan area, transportation facilities for students, healthcare services, mobile network connectivity and strengthening of the public distribution system.

The Managing Director sought detailed feedback from line departments regarding ongoing works and future interventions and directed concerned officers to submit comprehensive action plans and progress reports for timely redressal of public grievances.

Several issues were addressed on the spot during the meeting. Officials also informed that homestay facilities would be promoted in the area to boost rural tourism and generate livelihood opportunities for local youth. Progress under beneficiary-oriented schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), social welfare initiatives, street lighting projects and other developmental programmes, was also reviewed.

Ganai stressed the need to promote sports and youth engagement activities in the village, saying that sports infrastructure plays an important role in positively channelising the energy of rural youth. He also directed all departments to ensure saturation of eligible beneficiaries under welfare and development schemes so that benefits reach every deserving household.

Emphasising inter-departmental coordination, he called for expeditious implementation of developmental projects and sustained efforts to transform Seemari into a vibrant and self-reliant border village.

The meeting was attended by the SDM Karnah, Block Development Officer Teetwal, Executive Engineer SSD Tangdhar and other district and block-level officers.

Later, the Managing Director conducted an extensive field inspection of ongoing developmental works and public infrastructure projects in the village.
