Srinagar: The ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan has witnessed extensive public participation and intensified enforcement measures across Jammu and Kashmir, with authorities reporting significant progress in awareness generation, rehabilitation, treatment and anti-narcotics operations.
According to official figures, over 16.37 lakh awareness programmes were organised across the Union Territory with participation of more than one crore people as part of the “Drug-Free J&K – 100 Days Campaign.”
The outreach activities included padyatras, roadshows, school and college campaigns, village-level awareness drives, counselling sessions, sports events, seminars and social media campaigns aimed at sensitising the public about the dangers of substance abuse.
Authorities said mental health and counselling support services were also strengthened under the campaign. Around 3,572 calls were received through the Tele-MANAS counselling initiative from individuals seeking psychological support and guidance related to mental health and substance abuse.
Treatment and rehabilitation services were expanded across Jammu and Kashmir, with Addiction Treatment Facilities reporting engagement of 58,603 patients during the campaign period. Of these, 58,138 availed OPD services while 465 received inpatient treatment. Officials said 192 patients recovered and were discharged.
Rehabilitation centres operated by the Social Welfare Department provided treatment support to 634 individuals, while 1,055 people underwent counselling sessions. Authorities stated that 29 patients recovered successfully and 851 active cases remain under rehabilitation support.
Police-run de-addiction and counselling centres also recorded significant activity, with 451 patients registered, 786 counselling sessions conducted and 138 patients reported recovered.
Enforcement agencies intensified anti-narcotics operations during the campaign period. Officials said 850 FIRs were registered under NDPS-related offences, 942 persons were arrested and 293 drug peddlers apprehended. Authorities also identified 49 drug hotspots for focused intervention.
The campaign also targeted financial assets linked to narcotics trafficking. Officials informed that 55 houses linked to drug traffickers were sealed or demolished, while 71 immovable properties worth around Rs 4,632.17 lakh were seized or attached. Additionally, 34 immovable properties valued at approximately Rs 1,648.50 lakh and 42 movable properties worth Rs 214.93 lakh were also seized or attached.
Authorities further stated that 414 driving licences were suspended or cancelled, 13 vehicle registration certificates cancelled, 118 drug store licences suspended and two drug store licences cancelled. Around 1,285 Aadhaar cancellation applications and 119 passport impoundment applications were also processed.
During the campaign, enforcement agencies seized over 6.4 kg heroin, 47.2 kg charas and 251.6 kg ganja besides 22,474 tablets. Authorities also destroyed 65 kilograms of poppy plants and eradicated poppy cultivation spread over 47 kanals of land.
As part of surveillance measures, officials said 6,436 chemist shops were inspected, 6,881 CCTV cameras installed and 2,127 schools and hospitals checked to prevent illegal drug circulation near sensitive institutions.
The administration stated that intelligence-led operations were strengthened, with 3,045 suspected drug peddlers and smugglers identified and 36 PIT-NDPS detentions carried out.
Officials described the campaign as a comprehensive initiative focused not only on enforcement but also on youth protection, rehabilitation, awareness generation and community participation aimed at building a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
