Srinagar, April 30: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet in a fraud case involving false promises of land and government jobs, officials said on Wednesday.
The chargesheet in FIR No. 84/2022, registered under Section 420 RPC, has been submitted before the court of Judge Small Causes Srinagar against Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Astanpora, Tailbal Hazratbal.
According to investigators, the accused in January 2019 allegedly duped several complainants by promising them allotment of JDA land in Jammu and securing government jobs for their relatives. However, he neither delivered the land nor fulfilled the job assurances.
During the course of the investigation, it was established that the accused had deliberately deceived the complainants and obtained money through false representations. Evidence collected by the EOW confirmed the offence of cheating, leading to the filing of the chargesheet for judicial proceedings.
Police have advised the public to remain cautious against such economic frauds and urged people to report suspicious activities. Complaints can be submitted to SSP EOW Kashmir, Abdul Waheed Shah, or sent via email to sspeowkmr@jkpolice.gov.in.
