SRINAGAR: President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Farooq Abdullah, on Thursday described the Baisaran terror attack as a “lingering scar” on the collective conscience of the region, saying its human and economic impact continues to be felt across Kashmir.
Marking the anniversary of the attack, Abdullah said the tragedy still weighs heavily on the affected families, many of whom are yet to come to terms with the loss of their loved ones. He noted that apart from the loss of innocent lives, the incident also dealt a severe blow to the region’s tourism sector, a key pillar of the local economy.
He said the government led by Omar Abdullah is making sustained efforts to revive tourism and restore confidence among visitors. While early signs of recovery are visible, he added that rebuilding momentum will take time and requires continued support and stability.
Reaffirming his solidarity with the bereaved families, Abdullah called for a collective resolve to uphold peace, resilience, unity and sustained development in the region.
