Kupwara: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday inaugurated a Women’s T20 Cricket Tournament in Kupwara under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2025-26, aimed at promoting women’s participation in sports and strengthening community engagement.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Kupwara, Shri Al Tahir Gilani (JKPS), who was the chief guest on the occasion. He was accompanied by DySP Dar, SHO Women Police Station Kupwara and other officers.
A large number of spectators were present during the opening ceremony.
The chief guest unveiled the tournament trophy and formally declared the tournament open.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP Kupwara appreciated the initiative and said such events play an important role in promoting women’s empowerment through sports. He said sports help inculcate discipline, teamwork and a healthy lifestyle among young women.
He also encouraged greater participation of women in sports and reiterated the commitment of J&K Police to providing platforms for women to showcase their talent and abilities.
The tournament is being organised as part of the Civic Action Programme 2025-26 and is aimed at encouraging women’s involvement in sports while fostering positive interaction between the police and the community.
