Jammu: Minister for Education Sakeena Itoo on Saturday said the School Education Department is presently focusing on strengthening infrastructure and ensuring adequate teaching staff in already upgraded schools across Jammu and Kashmir.
Replying to a question by MLA Rafiq Ahmad Naik in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister said there is no proposal currently under consideration for further upgradation of schools to the next level.
She said the department is presently prioritising consolidation of infrastructure and provision of teaching faculty in schools that have already been upgraded.
However, Itoo informed the House that the Chief Education Officer has submitted a feasibility report to the Directorate of School Education Kashmir regarding upgradation of High School Jawahirpora Lam to Higher Secondary level.
She said the nearest Higher Secondary School to Jawahirpora Lam is Higher Secondary School Satoora, located around six kilometres away.
The Minister said the area also has a tribal population, but upgradation of schools is subject to fulfilment of prescribed norms such as distance, number of feeder schools and enrolment in higher classes.
She added that High School Jawahirpora Lam and High School Midoora will be considered for upgradation whenever proposals are taken up by the department.
