Jammu: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment and Tribal Affairs Javed Ahmed Rana on Friday said compensation for acquired proprietary land is being fixed strictly in accordance with the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 and the National Highways Authority Act, 1956.
Replying to a question raised by Shabir Ahmad Kullay in the Legislative Assembly on behalf of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Minister said compensation is being assessed strictly under the existing legal framework.
Javed Rana informed the House that discrepancies have been noticed in some cases in Kashmir between the actual use of land as orchards and the classification recorded in revenue records.
He said that, according to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, such discrepancies usually arise when landowners convert agricultural land into orchards without following the prescribed legal procedure for change of land use.
The Minister said revenue records are updated periodically during Rabi and Kharif inspections in accordance with Standing Order No. 22 (Jamabandi) and Standing Order No. 23-B.
He added that no separate provision exists for additional compensation or special relief beyond what is already provided under the law.
