LEH: Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Saturday said geographical distance should never become a barrier to justice delivery while virtually inaugurating the newly established District Court Complex in Kargil.

Describing the occasion as a landmark step towards strengthening access to justice in remote areas, Justice Surya Kant said Kargil symbolises resilience and that the new complex would improve the justice delivery system and inspire greater confidence among litigants.

“Geographical distance must not become a barrier to justice delivery,” he said, adding that the court complex was not merely an expansion of infrastructure but a qualitative improvement in judicial services.

The function was attended by Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Arun Palli, and High Court judges Sanjeev Kumar, Sindhu Sharma and Shahzad Azeem. Administrative Judge for Kargil district Mohd. Yousuf Wani attended the event physically from Kargil.

Earlier, a 3D presentation highlighted the design and facilities of the newly constructed court complex, including courtrooms, administrative offices and residential quarters.

In his welcome address, Justice Arun Palli expressed hope for continued support towards modernising judicial infrastructure in the Union Territory.

Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena thanked the Chief Justice of India for inaugurating the complex and described it as a symbol of the administration’s commitment to ensuring accessible and effective justice in Ladakh.

During the event, Justice Mohd. Yousuf Wani handed over a symbolic key to a chamber in the lawyers’ block to senior advocate Haji Ghulam Murtaza on behalf of the Chief Justice of India.

President of the Bar Association, Kargil, Riyaz Ahmed Khan, termed the inauguration a historic fulfilment of a long-pending demand and said the new complex would significantly strengthen the justice delivery system in the district.
