Awantipora: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday organised a special training session on effective investigation of cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Conference Hall of District Police Lines (DPL) Awantipora.
The programme was aimed at enhancing the professional competence of investigating officers dealing with sensitive crimes involving children.
The session covered legal provisions of the POCSO Act, adoption of a victim-centric approach, proper documentation, scientific collection of evidence, coordination with medical and forensic teams and timely completion of investigations.
Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) Pulwama Mehraj-ud-Din Wani and Assistant LADC Pulwama Sameer Yatoo attended the programme as guest speakers and delivered detailed lectures on procedural safeguards, child-friendly investigation practices and the need to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity while handling such cases.
The training was attended by the Senior Prosecuting Officer DPO Awantipora, SDPOs, SHOs, in-charge police posts and investigating officers of Police District Awantipora. Senior police officers also interacted with participants and stressed strict adherence to legal guidelines to ensure justice for victims and accountability of offenders.
Police said the initiative is part of continuous capacity-building efforts to strengthen child protection mechanisms and improve the quality of investigation in cases involving minors across the district.
