SRINAGAR: Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Anshul Garg, today convened a meeting of officers to review the flood mitigation plan and river management.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner SMC, Fazlul Haseeb; VC LCMA, Chief Engineer I&FC, besides other officers of ERA, JTFRP, SDA, UEED & other concerned departments.
At the outset, I&FC officers gave a detailed presentation regarding Topography & Flood issues in Kashmir, Highest Yearly Guage Recording at Sangam (1955 TO 2025), September 2014 Flood & Rainfall Analysis, Flood Management Plan of Jhelum Basin, Prioritisation for Execution of Comprehensive Flood Management Plan Works after September 2014 Floods, CWC Recommendations on the CWPRS and EPTISA Model Findings.
The meeting held a threadbare discussion on the diversion channel from Jhelum near Sangam to Wular Lake, raising flood walls at selected locations in Srinagar, re-sectioning of the Flood Spill Channel, choked portion of Jhelum in Srinagar, Sediment Control basin(s) on identified Jhelum tributaries, Flood zoning and land use regulations, besides erosion and sediment control measures on land.
