NEW DELHI: The Union Government has informed the Rajya Sabha that Jammu and Kashmir achieved 100 per cent Full Immunisation Coverage during the 2025-26 financial year under the Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP).
The information was provided by Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel in response to a question raised by BJP Rajya Sabha member and J&K BJP president Sat Sharma, who sought details on immunisation coverage, implementation of Intensified Mission Indradhanush and measures taken to vaccinate nomadic Gujjar and Bakarwal communities.
According to the Minister’s reply, extensive door-to-door surveys and beneficiary tracking under Intensified Mission Indradhanush helped identify more than 32,000 children requiring vaccination support. The campaign also covered 2,408 zero-dose children who had not received a single vaccine earlier.
The Ministry said special vaccination drives, awareness campaigns and outreach sessions were organised in remote and inaccessible areas to improve vaccine coverage and reduce the number of children left out of the immunisation programme.
It further informed Parliament that 336 Tribal Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) have been deployed to work with nomadic Gujjar and Bakarwal families. The ASHAs prepare migration-based micro-plans and conduct outreach camps to ensure vaccination services reach migratory populations.
In a statement, Sharma said universal immunisation is particularly important in Jammu and Kashmir, where difficult terrain, border villages and seasonal migration often pose challenges to healthcare delivery. He said he would continue to raise issues of public importance concerning the Union Territory in Parliament.
