Street dog mauls six people including two women

Baramulla: At least six persons including two women besides several animals were mauled by a street dog in Kitchama, Zandafarn and Zogiyar villages of Sheeri in Narwav area of Baramulla district on Tuesday creating panic in the area.

Locals said that a street dog created horror and panic gripped Zogiyar village when a dog went on a biting spree injuring a child and few cattle in the village. The dog ran to adjacent villages Zandafaran  and Kitchama  where it bit several people including animals and dogs.

Locals said that people working in their agriculture fields were injured after the dog attacked them. The dog cashed people and bit all those who confronted it.

“Fozia Akhter daughter of Ghulam Hussan Malik; Fareeda Begum wife of Ghulam Mohmamd Mailk of Kitchama; Abdul Hamid Mir besides two goats, few dogs and a cow were injured by dog bites. Fozia sustained severe injuries on her face and nose,” said Abdul Salam a local of Kitchama village.

Another local Javid Ahmed said the 10 year old Saqib Ahmad Malik son of Mohmmad Sultan Malik of Zandafarn became first victim of dog attack after that several people including two women were also injured.

The injured were rushed to PHC Sheeri were doctors on duty provided them first aid and administered anti-rabies vaccine. However, a seriously injured woman was referred to DH Baramulla.

“We received six injured persons with injuries on nose, legs and arms. All the injured were given first aid besides we administered anti-rabies vaccine and after keeping them under observation for some later discharged them from the hospital,” said Dr. Azhar Majeed, Medical Officer PHC Sheeri.

“A critically injured woman Fozia Akhter was referred to DH Baramulla as she had severe injuries on her face and nose. She has been referred her to SKIMS as she may need plastic surgery and Immunogolulin,” added Dr. Azhar.

He informed Immunogolulin is administered to patients with dog bites where the wounds are closer to the brain like face and also for young children.
