DDC Budgam inaugurates under-19 Girls inter-school Sports Tournament

BUDGAM, JUNE 28: District Development Commissioner Budgam, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar today asserted that equal participation of girls in all sports related activities at schools and other institution is imperative for their overall personality development.

These remarks were made by the DDC who was the chief guest at the inaugural function of District Level Inter-School Tournament of Under 19 Girls Kho-Kho, Volleyball and Kabaddi at DP School Budgam.

The 3-day tournament has been organized by District Youth Services and Sports Office Budgam. ADC Budgam, Mohammad Farooq Dar and District Youth Services and Sports Officer Budgam Balbir Singh Sodhi were also present on the occasion.

Underscoring the importance of extra-curricular activities, the DDC said that the sport is as important as academics for students for their overall personality development.

She directed concerned to ensure equal participation of girls in all sports activities and stressed games periods be held in letter and spirit at schools.

On the occasion, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Budgam, Balbir Singh Sodhi said that around 400-500 girl students from all Higher Secondary Schools of Budgam are participating in the tournament.

He said that 47 different sports events for age groups of under14, under17 and under 19 would be held during the current year. He said that last year 131 students from the Budgam represented J&K State at National level in different sports disciplines and 31 brought laurels to the state and district Budgam had the highest medal tally in J&K.
