Women for Water, Water for Women Campaign – Jal Diwali – continues across JK

Srinagar: Jal Diwali – “Women for Water, Water for Women” campaign, the first of its kind initiative by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India under its flagship scheme – Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), in partnership with the Ministry’s National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) continued on the second day of campaign across the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.

The campaign so far witnessed the participation of 216 Women Self Help Group members visiting 16 Water Treatment Plants that include Boria Pumping Station, Kalka Colony, Bahu Fort Jammu – Sitlee, Nagrota Bye Pass, Jammu – Rangil Ganderbal – Alustang Srinagar/Ganderbal among others.

During the visit, the participating SHG members were shown the vital procedures involved in delivering clean and safe drinking water. In addition to the understanding given on water quality testing protocols, to ensure the optimal water quality for distribution to households. 

The participating women SHGs were encouraged to actively inculcate a sense of ownership and belonging towards water infrastructure. 

On the occasion, a pledge to make judicious use of water, committing to conserve and use water resources wisely and joining hands to protect this precious resource through thoughtful actions and diligent decision-making was taken. As a token of recognition of their participation, souvenirs were presented to the women SHG members.
