Principal Commr Income Tax presides over awareness prog at Kupwara

KUPWARA: An income tax awareness programme for Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) and local businessmen was today organised by the Income Tax Department in collaboration with District Administration Kupwara at the Meeting Hall of DC Office Kupwara.

The programme was presided over by the Principal Commissioner, of Income Tax Srinagar, MP Singh and Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan was also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Commissioner Income Tax said that the awareness programme at Kupwara was held to sensitize the DDOs, employees, people and businessmen about the importance of tax paying.

Regarding the event, the Principal Commissioner said that such awareness programmes aim to reach out to taxpayers, business fraternities, DDOs, government employees, etc., to sensitize them and make them aware of their responsibilities and the importance of income tax in the overall scheme of things.

“The main idea behind this outreach program was to create awareness so that people understand the importance of tax-paying and can file their returns properly,” he said.

Singh enlightened the participants regarding various provisions of the Income Tax Act and Rules and emphasised the role of taxpayers in nation-building by paying taxes voluntarily/ honestly. He also cautioned officers and the business fraternity to not fall prey to tax evasion as the IT department is constantly gathering data and information about tax evasion, and the department is actively pursuing it.

Everyone needs to realize that in today’s era, banking transactions and real estate dealings are all recorded.

The Principal Commissioner of Income Tax expressed his gratitude to DC, Kupwara Ayushi Sudan along with her team, for organising a well-attended and impressive outreach programme and making it successful.

Addressing the awareness programme, DC Kupwara highlighted the importance of financial literacy as well as the importance of taxes in nation-building and infrastructural development.

The programme was attended by ADC Kupwara, Gh. Nabi Bhat, other district officers, Sectoral Officers, Dealing assistants, businessmen and officials.
