NC committed to restore lost glory of Shahar-e-Khas: Mubrak Gul

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Senior leader and former legislature on Sunday exhorted the party workers to work in tandem in order to strengthen the party’s fight for the protection of the unique identity of the region.

He, according to the NC spokesperson, said this while addressing a workers’ meeting at Bakshi Pura in Eidgah constituency. Among others, the party’s senior local unit functionaries and delegates were also present on the occasion.

Echoing the sentiments of the workers, Gul said the locality has met step-motherly treatment from successive non-NC governments.

He said that NC leadership has a special affinity with the people of Shahre Khas on account of its long-standing history in which the old city holds a special position. “People in Srinagar, unlike their counterparts living in rural areas, have no land, horticulture and allied agriculture activities to bank on. The city dwellers have been drawing their sustenance from tourism, handicrafts and the government sector. But the imprudent fiscal and political policies in place have snatched all these traditional avenues of employment from our people,” he said.

“Protecting cultural heritage of Srinagar, augmenting local Infrastructure, adding to the employability of our youth is high on the agenda of the party and is committed to restore the lost sheen of the city,” he added.

Expressing dismay over the crumbling road and drainage infrastructure in Palpura, Rathpura, Noorbagh, Bakshi Pura and Ali Jan road, Gul said the roads and alleys in Eidgah are in dilapidated condition.
