Srinagar, August 03: J&K Peoples Conference senior Vice President and former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil while reacting to the recent statement of Minister of State Home in the Parliament regarding restoration of statehood said that restoration of Statehood to J&K is not charity but the right of the people of J&K

According to a statement issued here, Vakil while addressing a meeting of party workers in Ningli Gath and Jaanwari, Sopore town today said that the Parliament of India should not facilitate denial of rights to the people of J&K.

“Alienation of people in Kashmir is at an all time high. The lack of a representative government has further estranged the people from the system. And when people stop relating with the system, it’s a dangerous sign,” he added.

Vakil reminded the Government of India to stay true to its promise of restoring statehood to J&K without any further delay.

“It is surprising that the GoI is not fulfilling its promise made in the Parliament. The Home Minister has repeatedly assured the nation from the floor of the Parliament that statehood will be restored. This assurance was also given by the PM during his broadcast to the nation addressed especially to the people of J&K. However, it is extremely unfortunate that the GoI is dragging its feet on restoring democracy in J&K,” he added.

Vakil lashed out at the administration for failing to announce a comprehensive plan for mitigating sufferings of daily wagers working in different departments, Anganwari workers and helpers. He said that the J&K administration has failed to address the sufferings of these poor people who depend on daily earnings to feed their families. Government is acting as a mute spectator to the suffering of these people and their families.
