BWJA organises ‘Media Workshop’ in Baramulla

Baramulla: In order to sensitize the media persons about current unfolding challenges and importance of capacity building of journalists in digital age, Baramulla Working Journalist Association (BWJA) organized a ‘Media Workshop’ on Sunday at Dakbanglow Baramulla in which members of association from across the district participated.

The programme was conducted under the chairmanship of BWJA Haji Karamat Qayoom in which speakers deliberated upon various topics and themes.

Speaking on the occasion, Greater Kashmir Senior Correspondent North Kashmir highlighted the role of journalists in overall development of society and importance of capacity building through reading books and urged upon the participants to understand their responsibility towards society.

While hailing the efforts of organizers, Vice president BWJA and senior broadcast journalist associated with Network 18 Sajad Hussian Pir highlighted the importance of such workshops and script writing for TV news.

“Our script must attract the audience and our viewers so we should learn the script to make the content rich. Reporting objectively from the ground level is necessary for bringing holistic development in the society,” he added.

Guest Speaker Writer, media literate currently serving as Cluster Resource Person in Education Department Reyaz Ahmad Ganai highlighted the importance of digital media and its scope.

“It is high time for all media persons to get training in digital technology as it is imperative to learn and get knowledge about the latest trends evolving in the digital age with social media ruling the roost,” he added.

In his presidential address President BWJA Zargar Gulzar said all persons associated with the media should make an effort to realise their mandate.

He said that journalists must utilise the various tools at their disposal to highlight people’s issues in a unique and novel manner in order to bring them to the notice of concerned authorities. “Journalists should carry out their professional duties with utmost dedication and compliance to ethics and accountability,” he added.

While addressing the participants Chairman BWJA and senior journalist All India Radio’s Shaherbeen program Karamat Qayoom stressed upon the media persons to uphold the nobility of this noble profession “We have many issues to cover as journalists. But when a story has an impact on a social life as a whole it means a lot and one feels satisfied with the job,” said the senior journalist Karamat Qayoom.

He said most reporters work freely and report things as they are, however there are always some pressures from different quarters which need to be tackled from time to time,” he said. 

“The good story is one which is social centric and touches the issues of common masses,” he added.

Senior Journalist CNS and Mirror of Kashmir and poet Anzhar Mohju conducted the proceedings of the workshop beautifully in his unique style. Vote of thanks was presented by Umar Rashid ANN news. 

During the workshop, the lectures and deliberations were followed by interactive sessions in which participants put forward their comments and observations with the experts. Media persons hailed the efforts of BWJA for organizing the program. Media persons from Pattan, Tangmarg, Sopore, Rafiabad and Baramulla participated in the program including Rahi Nisar of Gulistan Tv from Pattan, Ishafaq Ahmad Dar of Tangmarg and Suhail Khan Kashmir Dispatch of Sopore.

Other participants who participated in the workshop are as Mohammad Lateef-KNS, Majeed Sheeri of KPS/Tameel Irshad, Abid Nabi Daily Excelsior, Mudasir Ahmad Network 18 Hindi, Nisar Malik IANS/KR, Iqbal Amin Greater Now, Iqbal Bhat Akas Parwaz, Bashir Ahmad Sagar Zee Media, Bhat Mudasir- 4tv. ,Mohammad Abu Bakar-Independent, Sajjad Hussain-News18 Urdu, , Syed Mudasir-Tv9, Akhter Ali-ANN NEWS, Shabroz Malik-Tv9,Muzaffar Khan-JKNS, Shiekh Tariq -Kashmir Dispatch, Syed Amir-P24News, Ishfaq Ah Dar-Gulistan News & Mushtaq Ah Lone Kashmir Uzma.
