In order to keep strong health surveillance amongst general public due to recent threat imposed by the Omicron variant in the JK UT, the DCCRKs CAB monitoring teams framed on the directions of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang K.Pole in August 2021 have intensified their drive on strict implementation of CAB in the capital city.

An official spokesperson of DCCRK in a statement issued here mentioned that these monitoring teams are carrying out comprehensive market visits, parks and gardens, roadside vehicles, colleges/universities, coaching centres, government/private nursing homes along with various government/semi government and private offices in Srinagar city.

These teams were directed by the Incharge DCCRK, Tahir Ahmad Magray to intensify monitoring  after it was brought to the notice of Divisional Administration that general public are showing signs of  severe complacency in CAB from all the districts of Kashmir division, which could lead to the huge resurge of fresh cases of Covid-19 infection in the division.

It was given out that ‘Omicron’ variant has a serious potential of increased transmissibility, infectivity and has a significant decrease in effectiveness of vaccine/therapeutic and other health measures described by the W.H.O besides, it carries a great potential in causing a 3rd wave of Covid-19 pandemic if timely preventive measures were not followed.

The spokesperson said the all the district administrators were directed by the Divisional Administration to keep robust surveillance mechanism intact in their districts and keep close eye on cluster of new Covid-19 cases as there are reports from other parts of the country that there is a strong evidence of community transmission of Omicron variant in these cities.

The official spokesperson said that Divisional Administration is once again appealing general population to follow CAB all the time when they move outside and requested people especially elderly 60 years and above with co-morbidities to get themselves register from their nearest health centers for precautionary/booster dose which will be starting from 10 January, 2022 in every district.

The parents of children in the age group of 15 up to 18 years were advised to get their kids registered from CO-WIN Portal as their vaccination (Covaxin) against Covid-19 shall begin from 03 January, 2022 and the time interval for 2nd dose in these children will be 28 days.
