Police facilitates drug de-addiction awareness prog at Sopore

Srinagar: Police in Sopore organized a drug de-addiction awareness programme in view of the growing menace of drug abuse and addiction especially among youth.

The awareness programme was held at Community Hall BDO office Rohama Rafiabad while following social distancing norms and other protocols.

The programme was attended by SP Sopore Sudhanshu Verma, BDO Rohama Mumtaz Ahmad and BMO Rohama Dr. Asif Ali Dar. Besides, other stakeholders of the society including BAR President Rafiabad, Social Activist, Principal GHSS Rohama, Trade Association President, Chairman Civil Society Rohama, Sumo Owners President and students of Government Higher Secondary School Rohama attended the function. SHO Police Station Panzlla and Drug De-addiction Police team from Baramulla were also present on the occasion.

On the occasion, the prominent speakers briefed the participants about their role as parents in enriching the mental and physical health of their wards. They also stressed that parents can play a pivotal role in assessing their children activities. They explained the ways to know the warning signs and symptoms of a drug addict. They also highlighted the causes and consequences of drug addiction in Kashmir.

Speaking on the occasion, SP Sopore sought the cooperation of people in eradicating the social evils prevailing in the society particularly drug de-addiction. He also highlighted the role of parents and said that parents had greater responsibility in the social development of a child as they act as the first teacher and guide of their wards. He also spoke about preventive measures and the role of J&K Police in the prevention of drug addiction.

He further said that to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, public cooperation is necessary and Police is always available for help to those who are victims of this addiction and will make all possible efforts to help and rehabilitate those affected persons.

All the stakeholders have also been taken into confidence and officers assured them of any kind of assistance in order to eradicate the menace of drug abuse and its consumption from society.
