World Environment Day: Need to restore classical Kashmir of 1970s, 80s, says Govt

Srinagar: On the eve of World Environment Day, the government on Saturday said that there was a need to restore the classical Kashmir of the era of 1970s and 80s.

A special event of the restoration of pristine glory of Water bodies and Water transport—Khushalsar and Gilsar, was organized at Khushalsar on the eve of World Environment Day.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, P K Pole made a special visit in Shikara from Pokhribal towards-Nallah Amir Khan, Gilsar, Khushalsar upto Saidapora.

As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Pole while talking to the reporters said, that “it is a fact that we have damaged the environment and our existence will be endangered in case we damage it further.”

He said that Civil Society as well as the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner, Vice Chairman Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA), Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) and their teams are on the job from last two months to restore the pristine glory of Khushalsar and Nallah Amir Khan and Gilsar.

“Even the men from SMC do visit their wards on Sundays as well for cleaning and other processes,” he said, adding that “I want to appeal to the people that we need to restore the classical Kashmir that was in the 1970s and 80s. It stands the responsibility of one and all to share their bid in restoring the previous environment in Kashmir.” (KNO)
