Trenz village of Shopian reels under darkness

Shopian, 17 April: The inhabitants of Khar mohalla in Trenz village of District Shopian are facing inconvenience as the area lacks electric poles and wires and thereby gropes in darkness in absence of electricity.

The locals alleged that no electric poles or electric wires have been installed in their area, whereas if there are any electric lines installed in the village, they have been purchased by the villagers themselves.

“Electric lines have been fixed with the trees because of the shortage of electric poles, the employees of power development department (PDD) here charge for every task,” the locals alleged.

The residents here complained that despite repeated pleas, PDD department continues to remain indifferent towards their issue.

One of the residents, Jaleel Ahmad told Kashmir Images that from last five days their area is reeling in complete darkness as the electric wires have broken down.

“Trees are the only alternative for us and when these trees are cut off, we are left with no electricity. Whenever we request the concerned department to provide us with electric poles, we are being told to self generate funds for purchasing the electric poles,” he added.

Another resident Naseer Ahmad said that from past 8 years electric lines were installed on trees but the construction work under MNAREGA forced us to cut some of the trees. “The electric lines that were tied with the tress are lying on the ground now,” said Naseer Ahmad.

Talking to Kashmir images on phone Assistant Engineer Sub-Division Chitragam said, “Temporary restoration of electric poles will be done in the area very soon, provided the weather conditions are favorable.

“Due to the shortage of funds, the electric poles are not available as of now,” said AEE.
