SRINAGAR: Apni Party spokesperson Javid Hassan Baig on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the disparity faced by the Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel with regards to risk allowances being disbursed to other security forces.

In a statement issued here, Baig said that Jammu & Kashmir Police has always remained on the forefront of counter-insurgency operations across J&K and have laid down their lives in the line of duty.

“This is an ample proof of the professional acumen and dedication towards their services which has greatly contributed in bringing down the scale of violence and ensuring peace in this region,” Baig remarked.

He regretted the discrimination in risk allowances being disbursed to J&K police personnel which is very low in comparison to what the CRPF personnel and officials of other counter insurgency security wings are provided.

“This disparity in disbursement of risk allowance is totally ironic as the police personnel are delivering the same kind of services as their counterparts in other security forces wings,” he added.

Baig said the J&K Police has always offered supreme sacrifices in combat operations and the fatalities met by them are also significant in number. “They have always been at the forefront delivering their unrelenting services but the inequality in risk and hardship allowance is beyond comprehension,” Baig opined.

Apni Party spokesperson urged the administration to maintain uniformity in risk allowances and pay scale in view of the rising number of attacks on JKP personnel which have resulted in many casualties.

“I urge the Lt. Governor to kindly address this grave concern. Similarly, the concerns of SPOs who are rendering their services in a very tough atmosphere should also be addressed by raising their wages,” Baig demanded.

He said that many SPOs have also laid down their lives in combat operations and the government should enhance the ex-gratia relief in their favour. “Generally, the SPOs belong to the economically downtrodden families and in light of their relentless duties and other factors, the government must take a review and enhance the monetary compensation to their families in case of any eventuality,” Baig remarked.

He urged the union home minister to honour the supreme sacrifices by the J&K police personnel including SPOs at least given during the last over three decades of militancy in J&K. “The government of India must reciprocate to the valour and bravery shown by the J&K police by fulfilling their pending demands,’ he added.
