Police arrests 14 drug peddlers across Kashmir valley

Srinagar: Acting tough against the drug dealings, Police in a series of actions across Kashmir valley have arrested 14 drug peddlers and recovered contraband/psychotropic substances from their possession, said a police spokesperson.

“In Baramulla, Officers at a checkpoint established at Kunzar Market intercepted a person identified as Reyaz Ah Mir resident of Beewa Kunzar.  During checking, officers were able to recover 700 grams of Charas from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Kunzer where he remains in custody,” the spokesperson said. “Accordingly, case vide FIR numbers 11/2021 under relevant section of law has been registered at PS Kunzer and further investigation have been taken up.”

“Similarly in Kulgam, officers at a checkpoint established at Nipora crossing intercepted a vehicle (Chevrolet Aveo LS Car) bearing registration number JK01K-8909 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Aarif Ahmad Ganie & Muzaffar Ahmad Ganie, both residents of Hassanpora Bagh Bijebhara. During checking officers were able to recover 550 grams of Charas from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” the spokesperson said.

“A case vide FIR no. 32/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered in this regard,” he said.

The spokesperson further said: “In another action, officers from Police Station DH Pora while patrolling, intercepted three persons identified as Abdul Majeed Malik resident of Nagam DH Pora, Zeeshan Ahmad Malik resident of Khull and Tawseef Ahmad Naik resident of Chimmer. During checking officers were able to recover 90 grams of Charas from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody.”

“A case vide FIR no. 16/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS DH Pora and investigation has been initiated,” he added.

Meanwhile, Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested eight notorious drug peddlers and recovered a “huge quantity” of psychotropic substances from their possession in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A police statement said the arrested drug peddlers, identified as Umar Farooq Sheikh, son of Farooq Ahmad Sheikh; Muhammad Rafeeq Ganie, son of Ghulam Mohiudin Ganie of Ganai Mohalla; Sheikh Muzaffar Qadir, son of Ghulam Qadir Sheikh; Abdul Rashid Sheikh, son of Abdul Aziz Sheikh; Muhammad Asif Naikoo, son of Ghulam Mohiudin Naikoo; Ishfaq Ahmad Khaja, son of Ghulam Hassan Khaja — all residents of Seloo Sopore—and Rameez Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir of Aadipora Sopore, and Basit Hassan Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir of Changa Mohalla Arampora Sopore — were involved in supplying drugs to the local youth and making them addicts.

In this connection, cases under relevant sections of the NDPS Act have been registered against them at Police Station Sopore and further investigation has been initiated.

Police further said that more than 90 notorious drug peddlers have been arrested since the past two years and many were booked under PSA.
