Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Thursday said denying people basic civic amenities is gross infringement of their basic human rights and that the BJP which trumpeted for good days for Kashmirs, has even failed to ensure basic and effective civic amenities to people.

Addressing a Women’s wing meeting today here at Nawa-e-Subah, Party’s Sate women’s wing President Shameema Firdous said that the ruling BJP, far from delivering on the promises on development and job creation has miserably failed to ensure basic civic facilities to people.  The principal job of any government is to ensure glitch free civic amenities like drinking water, and electricity to people, apparently and unfortunately so, such things are not on the agenda of administration, she said. “There has been no headway in augmentation and up gradation of basic infrastructure in Srinagar city, the situation in remote areas and rural areas can well be gauged from this fact. Up gradation and augmentation of facilities  like drainage system, solid waste management, public toilet, safe drinking water, housing for poor in urban areas, electric supply, water logging have been left unattended since 2015. We saw how the entire population of Srinagar was reeling under darkness and queuing up to fetch water from public taps even on the festive observances,” she said.

Addressing the functionaries, she  extolled the significant role played by the party’s women’s wing functionaries, delegates, and workers for upholding and rallying round the party flag during the most trying times post unconstitutional and unilateral abrogation of  J&K’s special constitutional position.  She rued the widespread unaccountability, administrative inertia and development deficit in Kashmir in particular the summer capital of J&K.

“The response of the administration to the development needs of the people of Kashmir, in particular the Srinagar city has been very poor. All the measure projects in the Srinagar city have been put into a cold storage and no new significant project was taken into hand by the administration. The work on various projects is awaiting execution. The much touted development agenda of the government is nowhere perceptible on the ground. The roads, alleys and major arterial in Shah re-Khas are in shambles crying government apathy,” she said. On the occasion Party’s Provincial president Women’s wing Er. Sabiya Qadri also addressed the functionaries.
