Srinagar: National Conference Additional General Secretary and Member of Parliament Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan on Sunday welcomed the provision of 25 per cent reservation for local residents in admissions and employment in private universities to be established in Jammu and Kashmir.
Describing the provision as a commendable initiative, Ramzan said it would create greater opportunities for local students and job seekers while strengthening the region’s higher education sector.
Interacting with public delegations, party leaders and workers at the National Conference headquarters, he said the establishment of private universities would enable students to access higher education within Jammu and Kashmir, reducing their dependence on institutions outside the Union Territory.
He also expressed hope that reputed universities from across the country and abroad would establish campuses in J&K, further strengthening the region’s educational infrastructure.
Ramzan congratulated Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Education Minister Shamima Firdous for the decision, saying it would contribute to educational and economic development.
He said the National Conference government was focusing on development, public welfare and economic well-being, adding that the party’s elected representatives were raising issues concerning restoration of statehood, people’s rights, developmental requirements and public grievances in Parliament.
He maintained that the government was pursuing practical measures rather than political rhetoric and claimed that progress had been made in several sectors over the past two years.
The NC leader also urged party workers to strengthen the organisation and maintain regular contact with people to identify their problems and take them up with the authorities for redressal.
Party spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, Provincial Secretary Syed Tauqeer Ahmad, Women’s Wing Provincial President Er Sabiya Qadri, Srinagar District President Peer Afaq Ahmad and other party functionaries were present during the interaction.
