DPEO reviews preparedness for Phase III, IV in Ganderbal

GANDERBAL: District Panchayat Election Officer (DPEO) Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal today convened a meeting to review the arrangements put in place for smooth conduct of phase-III and IV of upcoming District Development Council (DDC) and Panchayat by-election in the district.

The phase-III of the election is scheduled to be held on 04 December 2020 in 03 District Development Council (DDC) constituencies of Block Ganderbal along with Panchayat by-election on vacant seats of Sarpanchs and Panchs in these constituencies and only vacant seat of ULB.

During the meeting threadbare discussion was held on security arrangements, MAF at polling stations, arrangements at Distribution/Collection center, deployment of staff for Collection/Distribution of poll material, distribution of voter slips, arrangements for counting of Panch and Sarpanch votes at ARO locations, transfer of Polled Ballot Boxes of DDC from Collection Center to strong room and deployment of Micro Observers.

The meeting also discussed voter slips distribution, availability of COVID-19 kits for Poll staff, hourly report of polling on Poll Day and EVM preparation.

Regarding hourly report and final voter turnout, the ROs and AROs were directed to ensure an hourly report of polling on Poll Day to the Election Control Room and final voter turnout shall be collected by the RO/ARO from the concerned Presiding Officer.

On the occasion, the DPEO said that the purpose of the meeting is to sensitize the ROs, AROs and Micro Observers and coordinate the police and civil magistrates (zonal and Sectoral) to ensure free and fair conduct of the election.

The DPEO also directed that counting of the votes for Sarpanchs and Panchs shall be ensured in the identified RO locations while the ballot papers of DDC candidates should be sent to concerned Strong Room for its safeguard.

He also directed that all the SOPs and guidelines related to COVID-19 are followed during elections to avoid the risk of infection.

In the phase-III, the elections in Ganderbal district are to be held in block Lar.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Farooq Ahmad Baba, Dy. DEO, ACD, ROs and AROs of Phase-III and IV besides, Micro Observers, civil magistrates (zonal and Sectoral) and Election Observers.
