FCS&CA home delivers 56133 Mts Rice, 2700 Mts wheat in Kashmir: Director

SRINAGAR: Director Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Kashmir, Bashir Ahmad Khan today said that following the lockdown due to outbreak of pandemic COVID-19, the department has completed home delivery of 56133 Metric tonnes of rice and 2700 metric tonnes of wheat among more than 14 lakh ration card holders  in Kashmir division.

He said that the distribution process of wheat and rice for the months of April and May was started in all the districts of Kashmir division in accordance with a proper roadmap formulated with all the Deputy Commissioners and the department. He said that a total of 70769 Metric tonnes of rice would be distributed among the card holds and the entire exercise will be completed in coming few days. Regarding wheat he said that 100% target has been achieved for home delivery of entire allocated stock of 2700 Mts.

Under Prime Minister’s Gareeb Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY), the Director said that the department will provide 5 kgs free of cost ration to every IAY and PHH beneficiary for the months of April, May and June at their doorsteps.

He said that the department has ample stock of food grains in place which includes 61592 Metric tonnes of rice and 2222 Metric tonnes of wheat. He said that in case the lockdown prolongs, the department has sufficient stocks to meet the requirement of consumers for next two months.

Likewise, petroleum products including cooking gas and other oil products are also sufficient and home delivery of cooking gas is also being carried on routine basis, he added.

Regarding steps taken for safety of employees of the department, he said that the department has taken certain precautionary measures to stop the COVID-19 spread and the same is being followed by the ground staff in letter and spirit while distributing food grains.

The Director said that to curb overpricing and food adulteration market squads are on job in every district and in Srinagar alone two squads in north and south zones work regularly.

The Director appreciated the job done by the frontline workers in any exigency be it COVID-19 or any other natural calamity.
