Kishtwar: BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Saturday claimed that growing discontent within the ruling National Conference (NC) following the recent Cabinet expansion could deepen the party’s internal crisis and threaten the stability of both the party and the government.
Speaking to reporters in Kishtwar, Sharma, according to the news agency KNO, said he had anticipated resentment among MLAs who were not included in the Council of Ministers.
“On the day of the cabinet expansion itself, I had said this was the beginning of the end. The National Conference will collapse like a house of cards,” he said.
Sharma asserted that dissatisfaction within the party extended beyond ministerial berths and reflected growing opposition to what he described as dynastic politics and family rule.
Referring to reports of a meeting between some disgruntled NC legislators, he said the developments suggested that efforts in that direction may already be underway.
“I believe some activities in that direction may have begun yesterday,” he said, adding that neither the government nor the party would remain intact if the situation continued.
Sharma maintained that the Cabinet expansion had triggered resentment among some legislators left out of the ministerial line-up, which could further intensify internal challenges for the ruling party. (KNO)
Cong undermining democratic institutions after failing to accept people’s mandate: J&K BJP
Jammu, Oct 31 (PTI) The J&K BJP on Saturday accused the Congress of “weakening” the democratic discourse by repeatedly questioning constitutional institutions and refusing to accept the people’s verdict.
Himachal Pradesh MLA and co-in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir BJP, Reena Kashyap, said the Congress cannot claim to defend democracy while undermining public faith in the very institutions that uphold it.
“Democracy does not function according to the wishes of one political family or party; it functions according to the Constitution and the mandate of the people.
“Whenever the Congress loses public support, it questions democratic institutions and manufactures controversies. This politics of frustration and misinformation is an affront to democratic values. No amount of political drama can undermine people’s faith in India’s democracy,” she said.
Kashyap was speaking at a ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ padyatra organised by the J&K BJP in Kathua district on the eve of the INDIA bloc’s ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ rally scheduled at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1.
Launching a counter-offensive against the Congress for “repeatedly questioning democratic institutions, spreading misinformation and attempting to manufacture controversies to cover its political failures”, Kashyap said the opposition party is undermining democratic institutions after failing to accept people’s mandate.
In Reasi, J&K BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma led a padyatra from the Rishi Kumar Koushal Chowk to the bus stand.
Sharma claimed the Congress had turned its inability to accept people’s mandate into a sustained campaign against democratic institutions.
“Instead of playing the role of a responsible opposition, the Congress makes baseless allegations and manufactures controversies to create distrust in the democratic system.
“Democracy is much bigger than Congress’ electoral ambitions. Constitutional institutions are not political punching bags, and people’s mandate cannot be challenged simply because it does not suit the Congress,” Sharma said. (PTI)
