BARAMULLA: Two young men died after being buried under a mound of sand during extraction in Dachanpora village of Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, prompting renewed calls for scientific assessment and regulated mining of minor minerals.

The deceased were identified as Javid Ahmad Mir, 28, and Mohammad Anees Malik, 29, both residents of Dachanpora. They were extracting sand late Tuesday night when the mound collapsed, trapping them underneath.
