SRINAGAR: A total of 7,910 households in Srinagar have been covered under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, Deputy Commissioner Akshay Labroo said on Wednesday.
Labroo made the remarks while presiding over an awareness-cum-registration camp organised by Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), Electric Division-I Srinagar, at Ghanta Ghar, Lal Chowk, to promote rooftop solar installations and facilitate on-the-spot registration of eligible households.
The Deputy Commissioner urged residents to explore the scheme’s benefits, saying rooftop solar installations could help reduce household electricity expenditure and promote cleaner energy.
He stressed the need to increase public awareness about renewable energy initiatives and ensure that eligible households are informed about the scheme’s benefits and registration procedures.
Labroo said the scheme was voluntary and demand-driven, encouraging eligible residents to enrol and contribute towards reducing dependence on conventional sources of power.
During the camp, he inspected awareness and registration stalls set up by KPDCL officials and scheme vendors and reviewed the facilities available to residents. He also urged officials and vendors to continue outreach efforts to expand awareness and participation.
A street play was staged at the venue to educate the public about rooftop solar installations, renewable energy and the benefits available under the scheme.
Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, IAS probationer Aakash Garg, KPDCL Executive Engineer Syed Abrar Ahmad, other officials and scheme vendors attended the programme.
