BARAMULLA: The Baramulla Working Journalists Association (BWJA) has warned against the alleged misuse of its name by individuals seeking to establish a parallel platform, stating that it would consider legal action against those found engaging in such practices.
In a statement, the association said it had taken serious note of attempts by certain individuals to use its name to serve personal interests, asserting that such activities could undermine its credibility and legacy.
Founded nearly 25 years ago, the BWJA said it represents working journalists associated with local, national and international media and is committed to safeguarding their professional rights, dignity and interests.
The association said it would not tolerate the use of its name or identity for personal gain, undue influence or intimidation. It added that individuals engaging in such activities should not be recognised as its authorised representatives.
The BWJA also urged members of the media fraternity to uphold professional ethics and asked the public to distinguish between genuine journalists and those allegedly seeking to exploit the credibility associated with the profession.
Announcing its plans for organisational continuity, the association said elections for the posts of president and general secretary would be held shortly following the expiry of the current office-bearers’ tenure, in accordance with its constitution and established norms.
