GULMARG: The Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) has demolished around half a dozen allegedly illegal structures at the world-famous tourist destination, following reports that concrete structures were erected under the cover of darkness in violation of restrictions imposed by the High Court.
According to a report by Mushtaq Hassan, the authority took action after its Chief Executive Officer, Ilyas Ahmad Nasroo, took serious note of the alleged constructions near hotels in Gulmarg.
The report said the structures had been raised at night despite the High Court’s restrictions on construction in the area. The GDA subsequently used bulldozers to demolish them.
Local residents expressed concern over what they described as repeated attempts by influential investors to raise unauthorised structures in Gulmarg. They alleged that large tracts of land had already been illegally occupied and that fresh constructions were now being attempted on the same land.
Public representatives and residents have appealed to the High Court to intervene and ensure that construction restrictions are enforced in Gulmarg.
