SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested six persons in separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Anantnag and Kulgam districts and recovered suspected contraband substances from their possession.
In Anantnag district, police from Dooru Police Station arrested Adil Rahman, a resident of Peti Khas, Verinag, during checking at Fidar Road and recovered approximately seven grams of heroin from his possession.
In a separate incident, police arrested Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Kapran, during checking at Qamar and recovered around eight grams of heroin. An FIR under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Dooru Police Station, and an investigation is underway.
At Najigund along National Highway-244, Anantnag Police intercepted Amir Hussain Sheikh, a resident of Donipawa, and recovered 10.76 grams of charas, according to police. In another case, Muneeb Saleem Wani, a resident of Bangidar, was intercepted at Mehendi Kadal, where six grams of charas was recovered from his possession.
Police Post Sangam also intercepted Urood Gul, a resident of Bijbehara, and recovered 6.30 grams of a charas-like substance. An FIR under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act has been registered in the case.
In Kulgam district, police arrested Dharm Veer, a resident of Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh, near DBZ Brick Kiln in Kachpora. Police said they recovered 1.360 kilograms of charas powder and 11.02 grams of a charas-like substance from his possession. An FIR under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Qazigund Police Station.
Police said investigations were underway in the cases and reiterated that action against drug trafficking and peddling would continue.
