SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday concluded separate T20 cricket tournaments in Kulgam and Ganderbal districts under the Civic Action Programme (CAP), with Team Hatipora and Lions Ganderbal emerging champions in their respective competitions.
In Kulgam, a T20 cricket tournament organised by the district police concluded at the Sports Ground Behibagh after witnessing participation from 16 teams representing different areas of the district.
Team Hatipora defeated Team Kujjar in the final to lift the title. The winning team was awarded a trophy and a cash prize of ₹20,000, while the runners-up received a trophy and ₹10,000. The “Man of the Series” was also honoured with a trophy and a cash award.
The closing ceremony was attended by DySP DAR Kulgam, DySP PC Hatipora, SHO Behibagh and other police officers.
Police officials said the tournament was organised to provide a platform for young cricketers to showcase their talent, encourage sportsmanship and strengthen ties between the police and local communities. Participants, particularly youth, were also urged to stay away from drug abuse.
Meanwhile, in Ganderbal, the Grand Knockout T20 Cricket Tournament organised by police under the Civic Action Programme concluded at Qamariya Stadium.
The tournament attracted participation from 64 teams from across the district. In the final, Lions Ganderbal defeated Valley Star Greens by 89 runs to clinch the championship.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal Sudhanshu Dhama presided over the closing ceremony, which was also attended by DySP Headquarters Ganderbal Dr Urfan, other senior police officers and families of police martyrs.
The winner and runner-up teams, along with the recipients of the Man of the Tournament and Man of the Match awards, were presented cash prizes, trophies and appreciation certificates.
Police officials said the tournaments were part of efforts to promote sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork and positive youth engagement while strengthening police-public relations through community-based initiatives.
