NEW DELHI: Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on Sunday hosted a luncheon interaction for Delhi-based medical alumni from Jammu, many of whom were his former students during his tenure as Professor of Medicine and Diabetes at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu.

The gathering at the minister’s residence brought together doctors and medical professionals now serving in senior clinical, academic and administrative positions across hospitals and healthcare institutions in Delhi-NCR and neighbouring regions.

Recalling his years in academia before entering public life, Dr Singh said it was gratifying to see the professional achievements of his former students and their contributions to the healthcare sector.

The alumni, many of whom studied under him at GMC Jammu, shared memories of their student days and spoke about their professional journeys since graduating from the institution.

The attendees represented a wide range of medical specialities, including internal medicine, neurology, oncology, pulmonary medicine, psychiatry, pharmacology, paediatrics, gastroenterology, hepatology, radiology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery and hospital administration.

Among those present were Dr Sheikh Yasir Islam, Professor of Medicine at Lady Hardinge Medical College; Dr Sujata Thapa and Dr Padma Lahdol of RML Hospital; Dr Akhil of Lady Hardinge Medical College; Dr Atul of Max Hospital, Noida; Dr Gagan of AIIMS; Dr Shivani Deswal of Apollo Hospitals, Gurugram; Dr Rinky Anand Gupta of Max Super Speciality Hospital, Vaishali; and Dr Namita Kaul of Medanta Hospital, Noida.

The minister said one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching was witnessing students advance in their careers and make meaningful contributions to society.

The reunion also provided an opportunity for the alumni to reconnect after several years and reflect on their shared academic experiences at Government Medical College, Jammu.

According to an official statement, the gathering celebrated the professional achievements of the alumni while reaffirming the enduring bond between a teacher and his former students.
