SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday informed the Legislative Assembly that 56 water supply schemes worth ₹116.50 crore have been taken up under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Pahalgam constituency to provide potable drinking water and Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) to residents.
Replying to a Calling Attention Motion moved by MLA Altaf Ahmad Wani, Jal Shakti Minister Javed Ahmed Rana said the schemes, estimated to cost ₹11,649.66 lakh, are being implemented under JJM to cover the entire constituency.
The minister said 31 of the 56 schemes have been completed and made functional, while the remaining 25 are under execution and have achieved over 75 per cent physical progress.
He informed the House that the remaining works would be completed within the extended timeline of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, which has been extended till December 2028.
Rana said progress on the Regional Dachnipora Water Supply Scheme had been affected due to a long-pending land dispute that remains sub judice. He added that villages and habitations falling under the scheme, including Awoora, Dehwatoo, Nagipora, Charigam, Kullar, Wullerhama, Sofipora, Hardekathal, Movera, Yanner, Wehdan, Sallar, Livar, Zaigund and Bagwani, are currently being supplied drinking water through existing schemes.
The minister also informed the Assembly that the Litroo Water Supply Scheme, being executed under NABARD at an estimated cost of ₹564.75 lakh, has achieved around 80 per cent physical progress.
He said water supply infrastructure in Wullerhama, Hardekathal and Sofipora was damaged by consecutive cloudbursts in Nallah Awoora during July and August. While temporary restoration has been completed, a proposal for permanent restoration has been submitted, he added.
According to the minister, drinking water in the affected areas is currently being supplied through the existing network and tanker services wherever required.
Rana said proposals for augmentation of water supply and coverage of left-out habitations, as well as restoration works, have been included under various programmes, including UT Capex, District Capex and the Special Assistance for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme.
He assured the House that the department was taking necessary measures to address water supply issues and ensure uninterrupted drinking water facilities in Pahalgam constituency.
